Die United States Navy, wie jede Organisation, produziert ihre eigenen Akronyme und Abkürzungen, die oft über ihre bloßen Erweiterungen hinaus Bedeutung haben. Diese als „NAVSpeak“ bezeichneten Begriffe gehen auf die Anfänge der Seefahrt und der Seekriegsführung zurück, als Seeleute ihr eigenes Vokabular entwickelten, um Informationen effizient zu übermitteln und die Disziplin an Bord von Schiffen aufrechtzuerhalten.
