Abu Ishaq Muhammad al-Muhtadi bi-'llah ibn al-Wathiq (arabisk: أبو إسحاق محمد المهتدي بالله بن الواثق Abū Isḥāq Muḥammad al-Muhtadī bi-'llāh b. al-Wāṯiq; død 21. juni 870) var den fjortende abbasidiske kalif (869–870).
Al-Muhtadi hadde ry på seg som en from mann. Han ble innsatt som kalif av al-Mu'tazz' (866–869) mordere. Annerledes enn de tyrkiske garder hadde forestilt seg, ble han ikke noen marionette for dem, og han forsøkte heller å utnytte spliden mellom dens offiserer. Idet han ikke hadde kontrollen over sikkerheten i Samarra, ble han myrdet allerede 21. juni 870. Under hans etterfølger al-Mu'tamid (870–892) lyktes det abbasidene å stabilisere sin makt igjen.
